Singapore builds world's most accurate atomic clock, beating US and China

A research team in Singapore has built the world's most precise atomic clock, using a single ion of the rare earth metal lutetium. The device would drift by just one second over 260 billion years, roughly 20 times the age of the universe, and is about four times more accurate than the previous record, a calcium-ion clock built by a Chinese Academy of Sciences team in Wuhan. It also outperforms the best American clocks.
