Physicists Find a Superconductor That 'Breaks' The Symmetry of Time – A First For Its Kind
Physicists at IISER Bhopal synthesized single crystals of ytterbium diantimonide (YbSb2), which became superconducting at -272°C. Muon spin spectroscopy revealed spontaneous internal magnetic fields, evidence of broken time-reversal symmetry. This is the first type I superconductor to show this property, typically found in unconventional type II materials. The study appeared in Physical Review Letters.
