Scientists Name New Genus of Plant-Feeding Insects After Taylor Swift: Swiftiephylus
Scientists at the University of California, Riverside have named a new genus of plant-feeding insects Swiftiephylus, honoring Taylor Swift. The group contains 12 new species, four named for her: S. taylorae, S. amator, S. intrepidus and S. poetorum, referencing her albums Lover, Fearless and The Tortured Poets Department. Author Sarah Schroeder, a self-described Swiftie, said the pale-yellow insects with red markings reminded her of Swift's blonde hair and red lips. The specimens, collected between 1995 and 2004, belong to the plant bug family Miridae.
