Iwi and community-led effort return kiwi to Wellington for first time in over a century
More than 250 kiwi were translocated to hills around Wellington, New Zealand, for the first time in 150 years. The Capital Kiwi Project removed stoats using over 5,300 traps across 24,000 hectares, with iwi, community and landowners. Over 300 kiwi now live there, including chicks that reached one kilogram.
