In Indonesia's West Kalimantan province, a program called KehatiKu pays villagers to photograph or record wildlife. Over 800 residents from nine villages now earn up to $200 monthly, replacing hunting with observation. The initiative has generated 378,000 confirmed sightings, including endangered orangutans and gibbons, and will expand to two more villages next month.
