the peacock is still wearing its last outfit
Don't Cook That Is a Museum of Horrible Recipes
The website Don't Cook That collects 144 recipes printed in cookbooks between 1831 and 1929 that should never be attempted. Some rely on ingredients now known to be poisonous, including instructions for reviving expired meat with potash or hydrogen chloride gas, a 1906 drink containing sulphuric acid, and butter preserved in salt brine. Others are merely grotesque, such as a peacock cooked and then rewrapped in its own skin and feathers. Every entry links to the public-domain cookbook it came from.
