Meet the first bear to ever receive a prosthetic paw: 'We do whatever it takes to help'
In 2019, Wildlife SOS rescued a young sloth bear named Vasikaran after a wire snare trap destroyed his left hind paw, forcing an amputation. Animal orthotist Derrick Campana, known as the "Wizard of Paws," fitted Vasi with a custom prosthetic, and in September 2025 the bear became the first in the world to receive a prosthetic limb. Wildlife SOS runs four sloth bear sanctuaries in India, including the Agra Bear Rescue Facility.
