Scientists propose Mars shelters built from engineered yeast, gelatin and sand

Researchers in Hong Kong published a study in Chem Circularity describing a "living" building material made from genetically engineered yeast, gelatin and sand that can be 3D printed under simulated Martian conditions. The team says it offers a fast, cheap alternative to shipping construction materials from Earth or spending enormous energy melting Martian soil into bricks. Mars settlers would need shelter, and this material could provide it.
