Tapeworm Treatment Shows Early Effectiveness Against Endometriosis

Researchers at Washington State University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Florida attached the tapeworm drug niclosamide to a dendrimer carrier targeting folate receptor beta on macrophages. In mice with induced endometriosis-like lesions, the treatment reduced growths and pain-related sensitivity. The study, published in Advanced Healthcare Materials, also analyzed human cell datasets and fluid from four patients. Endometriosis affects roughly one in 10 women of reproductive age.
