Disney named Karandeep Anand, former CEO of Character.AI, as its first-ever chief technology officer. In September 2025 Disney sent Character.AI a cease-and-desist letter accusing the chatbot company of hosting copyrighted Disney characters, and Character.AI has also faced lawsuits over alleged self-harm encouragement by its bots. New Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro, who replaced Bob Iger in March, made the hire. Anand previously worked at Facebook and spent 15 years at Microsoft.
