a 70-metre embroidery outlasted the Black Death but not a queue that started at 3pm sharp
Bayeux Tapestry fans turned away after British Museum closes gallery early
The Bayeux Tapestry went on display at the British Museum on September 10, its first UK showing in 1,000 years, while its Normandy home is renovated. More than 65,000 people joined the online queue for the first tickets, priced at 33 pounds for adults. On September 30, visitors with 3pm slots, including comic artist Dr Ellen Walker and her mother, queued for 20 minutes before staff told them the gallery was closing early. The museum blamed earlier delays, apologised, and offered refunds plus free rescheduled tickets.
