Olivia Wilde Eyes Oscars History With 'The Invite' as First Woman to Direct Herself to an Acting Nomination

Olivia Wilde's third directorial feature, 'The Invite,' adapted by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack from the 2020 Spanish film 'The People Upstairs,' has emerged as A24's strongest Oscar contender this season, starring Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz alongside Wilde herself. No woman has ever earned an acting nomination for a film she also directed, while men have racked up 20 such nods. Wilde also appears in Tony Gilroy's 'Behemoth!' and Sundance favorite 'I Want Your Sex.'
