Book Bunk, a nonprofit founded in 2017 by writer Wanjiru Koinange and publisher Angela Wachuka, has restored the Eastlands and Kaloleni libraries in Nairobi and begun work on the McMillan Memorial, the city's oldest branch. The libraries now offer free internet, computers and quiet workspaces. Sunil Totti, 26, an accounting graduate turned software developer, spends eight or nine hours a day at Eastlands after once avoiding it as a dusty building. The McMillan restoration will also add a garden, cafe and reading rooms.
