Earth is in the firing line of a strange new type of cosmic object, astronomers say

Astronomers have identified a previously unknown class of cosmic object on a trajectory that intersects Earth's orbit, according to reporting by science journalist Sarah Wild. The object does not match the known categories of asteroid, comet or meteor, and researchers are still working out what it is made of and how close it will actually pass. No impact date or size estimate has been released.
