These New Snails Can Slam Shut Their Shells Like Doors

Researchers identified two new land snail species in Montenegro, Cochlostoma komarnica and Cochlostoma dobrido, which possess opercula that seal their shells like doors. The discovery highlights conservation concerns, as the Komarnica Canyon is scheduled for flooding due to a hydropower dam project.
