Earth gains new moon as space rock is captured by planet's gravity
Astronomers confirmed that a one-metre space rock, designated 2026 QQ8, has entered a temporary orbit around Earth. Discovered by Hungarian astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky, the object was initially suspected to be debris but verified as a natural asteroid. It will remain a mini-moon until December, when it escapes Earth's gravity to resume its solar orbit.
