Software squeezes more data out of Webb Telescope for imaging exoplanets
Researchers created FLIP software that uses gradient descent on a physical model of JWST's NIRCam to optimize imaging parameters. Applied to observations of stars HIP 65426, 51 Eridani and TYC 5899, the method increased signal‑to‑noise by 1.5‑2× and sensitivity by up to 15×, enabling clearer exoplanet detection.
