Meryl Streep's Aslan stirs gender debate over Gerwig's 'Narnia'
Netflix's adaptation of "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," directed by Greta Gerwig, has drawn backlash from conservative Christian commentators over the casting of Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. Critics argue the lion represents Jesus Christ and should remain male. Gerwig has moved the story's setting from 1900 to the 1950s. No footage has been released. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in February.
