OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, expanding its GPT-6 generation with cheaper, more accurate smaller models. API pricing for the new series is half that of the 5.6 versions, which OpenAI attributes to caching and inference improvements. The company claims Sol makes roughly half the mistakes of its predecessor on internal factuality tests, and says both models outperform Anthropic's top offerings. Anthropic shipped Opus 5.5 just 90 minutes before OpenAI's announcement. Sol and Luna are now live in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API, with Luna also reaching Free and Go users.
