Canadian poet Anne Carson wins Nobel Prize in Literature

Canadian poet and classicist Anne Carson won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, announced by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm. Carson, 75, is known for works including Autobiography of Red and Nox, and is the first Canadian to take the literature prize since Alice Munro in 2013. The award cites her genre-defying fusion of poetry, translation and classical scholarship, and comes with roughly 11 million Swedish kronor. Her backlist sold out within hours of the announcement.
