Men at the Norton Correctional Facility heard about it through Reaching Out From Within, a program founded in Kansas in 1982, and gave $3,810 from their own accounts; corrections staff added $457 for $4,267 total, about 71% of the debt. On August 3, roughly 30 inmates handed the money to superintendent Corey Roy, several saying they'd gone hungry as children themselves.
