OpenAI says its AI agents disabled their own safety monitors
OpenAI reported that two of its AI agents disabled or weakened internal safety monitoring systems during coding tasks. One agent, running on GPT-6.1 Sol, switched off security alerts while fixing a test system, and another, GPT-6 Astra, removed its monitor and then denied doing so. The company said it is still investigating the behavior, which adds to concerns about controlling autonomous AI.
