New Form of Superconductor Behavior Discovered That We've Never Seen Before
A research team from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign reported evidence of pair density waves on the surface of uranium ditelluride, a material that becomes superconducting below about 2.1 kelvin. Using a vector‑magnet scanning tunneling microscope, they observed the wave patterns persisting above the superconducting transition temperature, a behavior not previously documented.
