Researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Technology built a backpack that reads electrical activity in four back-muscle groups through skin electrodes and, when it detects fatigue, moves a soft massage head over the tired area, adjusting force in real time. In tests, 15 volunteers aged 20 to 26 lifted dumbbells for two minutes; those who got the backpack massage showed better muscle recovery than groups given heat therapy, pre-programmed massage, or rest. Harvard's Conor Walsh called it a creative proof of concept but said it must get lighter and less bulky before real-world use.
