In Fukushima, Japan, officials attempted to subdue a bear rampaging through a factory on June 2 using tranquilizer darts due to flammable materials. The darts failed to weaken the animal, which charged a vehicle and later escaped through a window 33 hours later. Experts attributed the failure to the bear's thick fur, noting the hazardous environment made the operation unprecedented.
