Ten years after their lowest ebb, Newcastle are one win from salvation
Newcastle won just one match across the entire 2016 NRL season, the equal-fewest victories by any team in 60 years, one of three straight last-place finishes. Dane Gagai, the only Knight from that squad still at the club, will run out in Sunday's grand final, while Jacob Saifiti misses through suspension. Trent Hodkinson, who captained the 2016 side, recalled 20,000 fans turning up every week through the losing. Newcastle last reached a grand final 25 years ago.
