open source, now with a bouncer.
Reddit's r/opensource bans all AI projects and goes English-only
The 500,000-member subreddit r/opensource introduced immediate rules on October 24, 2026, banning any project that uses, is made by, or is built for AI. It also made the forum English-only and now requires projects to be at least a year old with multiple contributors. Moderator Wolvereness said AI training on scraped code conflicts with open-source values. Critics note the Linux kernel now includes AI-generated code, and a new r/TrueOpenSource group has already launched.
