OG Ramayana's Arun Govil on criticism of new film: 'Ranbir is sanskari'

Arun Govil, who played Ram in the 1987 Doordarshan Ramayana, responded to criticism of the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-led Ramayana adaptation by calling Ranbir 'sanskari'. The comment came after clips from the new film drew backlash online. Govil's endorsement of Kapoor's casting has since been shared widely, with fans of the original series and the new production trading barbs about which version respects the source material. The new Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is expected in 2026.
