MIT Startup Claims It Can Turn Diesel Trucks Into Cheaper Hydrogen Haulers

An MIT spinout called LNK Energies says it can convert existing Class 8 diesel trucks to run on hydrogen carried in a liquid organic hydrogen carrier, releasing the gas onboard from a reactor shrunk from shipping-container size to roughly a mini fridge. CTO Alexis Huynh puts the total cost of ownership at 13% below diesel, since skipping the 800-bar compression step saves energy. Hydrogen refueling is faster than recharging big-rig batteries, but moving and storing the fuel remains the open problem.
