Bombers Block Hawks' Opening Offer for Zach Merrett as Trade Standoff Reignites

Essendon rejected Hawthorn's opening offer for captain Zach Merrett, the first formal bid of a trade period already being called a rematch of last year's standoff. The Bombers have not named a price and have shown no sign of opening talks, while Hawthorn's list team has spent months clearing space for him. Merrett remains contracted to Essendon with no trade request lodged, so the deal can only move if the club blinks first.
