Two years on, Karnataka beekeepers continue to face threat from small hive beetle

Small hive beetles destroyed approximately 800 honey bee colonies in Karnataka's plains over 25 days, according to beekeepers and researchers. The invasive insect, which originated in America, has spread across several Indian states and continues to threaten apiculture in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and surrounding districts. Officials warn that further spread to hill regions could disrupt coffee pollination, though no effective control solution has yet been found.
